Making A Better CO2 Filter

From Science Daily, Eltron Research of Boulder, CO is working on a better CO₂/hydrogen filter to be used for separation of hydrogen from gasified coal. What I'm wondering is why people aren't looking at ways to extract CO₂ from the atmosphere and use it to make other things.
